Concrete floor

I'm surprised that you haven't received a reply to this already.

I think much will depend on what your final floor covering will be.

For instance, I've just installed underfloor heating in my bathroom (floor Boards) and this entailed the laying of thin insulated panels onto the floor surface. I then fitted LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) on top of this which is not dissimilar to laminate flooring. I didn't even need to raise the bottom of the door height.

Permanent solutions would be far more involved obviously, but some BISF properties have concrete floors throughout, whilst others have a mixture of floorboards and concrete. The most extreme method would be to lay insulation panels and screed over them to provide a new floor but this would undoubtedly lead to a lot of work and possibly some excavation to a greater depth to accommodate thicker panels.

I also used a multifoil insulation on my conservatory floor which was also laminated. I did this because I had a surplus after insulating and boarding my south facing conservatory roof. It worked fine, but I do suspect a reduction in thermal performance due to the compression of the air gap between layers.

Something like EcoTec is simple to install and relatively cheap, although there are better performing products. See video below ....

What is your final floor covering going to be? 

As for the frame, it should have any impact on the steel as the base plates are in the walls.

Just to clarify, when you say..

 Does anyone have any suggestions on how to insulate this even better? Would it be a problem to the main steel frame for it to be insulated even more? 

You are referring to the floor here and not the walls?

I am trying to find the best way to insulate our ground floor. At the moment it is just concrete with wood directly onto it. 

I recommend doing an epoxy floor coating. This floor is much warmer than a concrete floor.

We're planning a self-build with polished concrete phoenix an insulated EPS foundation and UFH on top, in the floor slab. Does anyone know if we can polish this floor slab up to make a polished concrete floor? and does this work out cheaper than say, tiling the floor, as we're not doubling up on materials?
