Hi all, I want to remove the spine wall between my kitchen and living room. I want to create approximately a 3.5m opening. Has anyone successfully done this? My plan is to add two steel posts with a load bearing steel between, to take the weight of the wall above.

Any help/advice appreciated.

It’s quite common apparently

you may find that you have a 3rd door from kitchen to living room / dining room plastered up

upon stripping our wallpaper we found this

already have two doors as used to be two rooms

@bigdavygravy Hi, did you manage to knock through the spine wall.

we live in a Airey house that was rebricked in the 80s as part of the repair scheme.  We gave up a few years back to have ours knocked through.

we probably had 10 builders round for quotes, but unfortunately  none was interested  as they didn't know what they were dealing with. we even had structural calcs done by engineer and even he hadn't ever seen what was behind the plasterboard kitchen side.

Concrete columns still in situ but another steel system added in the 80s.

The last builder we had round did know a bit more and was honest, he had dealt with prc homes but said it would involve props needed upstairs as well as downstairs.

He wasn't interested as it was a horrific job and would have to charge at least 8k oppose to 3.5k for a normal 3 mtr knock through. This was in  2021
