We have discussed the locations and types of low level asbestos that can be found in BISF houses in a previous article which can be found Here

We have been asked by Blackwater Law, a company who specialises in Asbestos related injury claims to share the below info-graphic which provides further detail relating to specific Asbestos related injuries that can arise from long term contact with asbestos or asbestos containing materials.

The risk of asbestos injury associated with living in a BISF or any other post-war house is statistically considered to be very low despite the use of asbestos roofing sheets in many post-war buildings.

As small as the risk may be, it is worth remembering that asbestos is found naturally in the environment, with certain geographical locations containing higher levels of particulates in the air than others. Local "Hot Spots" can occur for any number of reasons, including poor asbestos material handling by some contractors or industries.

We have heard of worrying instances where roofing contractors, involved in the fitting of replacement roofing systems to BISF properties, have failed to remove and dispose of the existing asbestos roofing panels according to Government guidelines.

In these fortunately rare cases, the old asbestos roofing sheets were  not correctly removed from the frame of the roof  but simply smashed into pieces where they stood, allowing the panels to fall down into the loft space where they were left, without the knowledge of the occupants. If you find large quantities of broken corrugated asbestos roofing panels littering the floor of your loft, you must call a professional asbestos disposal company to remove this waste safely.

It is worth noting that the vast  majority of  individuals found to be suffering from Mesothelioma or other asbestos related injuries have been involved in long term exposure due to asbestos related occupations.
