He we have a selection of original images from the Ministry Of Works BISF demonstration houses at Northolt.
The houses represented state of the art Post War living for the masses with each house having a fully fitted Kitchen, Central Heating and a semi-open plan design.
Emphasis was placed on large windows particularly in the Living Room area to allow maximum light to enter the space. This was a far cry from the pre-war back to back housing of the pre-war era where living conditions were often dark and very cramped.
The BISF House provided spacious accommodation with a generous 850 sq ft of living space delivered in a modernistic living package that was very well received at the time.
